Introducing Website Optimization Tools
Most of the major search engines (Yahoo!, Bing and Google) provide free tools for Webmasters to monitor the performance of their Website that was crawled and indexed by the search engine. These tools provide Webmasters with detailed information about their Website's visibility on the search engine. These tools can help identify and diagnose problems, discover link and query traffic and be used as a portal to share information about the Website (with the search engine).

Trends in Website Optimization Tools
As noted in "Yahoo Gives In to Microsoft, Gives Up on Search" by Bloomberg-BusinessWeek (Reference #1), Yahoo! signed an agreement on July 29, 2009 to utilize Microsoft's Bing search engine to power the search results on its Website. What this means, as explained by the Yahoo! Help article: "Yahoo! and Microsoft Search Alliance: Site Explorer FAQ" (Reference #5) is that Yahoo! will at some point discontinue their Site Explorer tools. And it appears that they have already discontinued development and maintenance of Site Explorer.
Consequently, anyone wishing to utilize Yahoo! Site Explorer should instead redirect their efforts into learning the Bing Webmaster Tools. Although, as indicated in "Bing Webmaster Tools Now Providing Back Link Information" by SEO Moves (Reference #3), Microsoft has only recently begun to invest heavily in the Bing Webmaster Tools. As a result, Google's Webmaster Tools will likely be the leading application in this field for, at least, the next few years.
