Sequoia Diner is a unique restaurant owned by husband and wife Andrew Vennari and Sequoia Broderson. Located in the Laurel District of Oakland, the restaurant will serve breakfast and lunch Wednesday through Sunday. Andrew and Sequoia have a large handful of experiences in the food business. Andrew has cooked professionally for 12 years and was sous chef at Camino and Duende, while Sequoia has abundant front-house experience. Sequoia Diner will serve local, sustainable and organic ingredients, including pasture eggs and their bread, pastries, bacon, sausages, and jams are all made in-house.  The diner’s old school vibe creates a comfortable environment for anyone looking to find a friendly location to dine.  Their location is traditionally known for being a neighborhood eatery and for the last 18 years was the Full House Café.  Andrew and Sequoia’s experience, creativity and community orientation is continuing this long standing tradition in the Laurel District.

Magic Carpet Yoga Mats are unique artistic yoga mats featuring print patterns of acrylic washes from oriental rugs, heightening the yoga experience with high-quality features and juicy, textile, inspired aesthetics.  The idea for the company was born when Sophie Leininger was practicing yoga at home, and saw the sunset light setting on a favorite oriental rug that was covering a yoga mat.  An idea for a business was born. The business was launched, and a whirl of activity followed, including press from influential bloggers, and a successful Kickstarter campaign that caught the attention of a major retailer.

A Common Space is a fashion e-commerce site for the Millennials, women between the age of 15-35, who are interested in an effortlessly chic and modern style. With 15 years of combined fashion e-commerce experience, Stanley Yang and Elaine Chao wanted to create a space that can be shared equally by anyone to be inspired. Their message is simple, good fashion does not have to be expensive. The site focuses on grasping the customer’s buying habits and adapting to their needs and trends. Aside from shopping, A Common Space allows shoppers and browsers to view the site to learn, discover, and become immersed in a world of style. It focuses on educating consumers that one piece of fashion can be used many ways to be unique for any individual.

Cool Earth Solar, Livermore

Cool Earth Solar (Cool Earth) is an innovative start-up company whose fundamental technology uses an inflatable plastic film to concentrate sunlight onto a photovoltaic (PV) solar cell. With these concentrators, Cool Earth PV cells generate over 1,000 times the electricity of non-concentrated PV cells.

In addition, Cool Earth is developing a complementary technology – a solar meteorological station (met station) that provides highly accurate measurements of solar radiation at a low price point and with minimal maintenance. A network of these inexpensive met stations produces the data required to develop the highly accurate solar generation forecasts needed by utilities, solar operators, and government agencies such as NOAA.
